Day 3

Embryos at the 8-cell or more stage of development

Approximately 72 hours after the eggs were first inseminated they will usually have reached around the 8 cell stage. In the IVF program it is common to transfer the best of the embryos from a treatment cycle back to the uterus at this stage. If the patient will be having preimplantation diagnosis to test the genetic makeup of the embryo, the biopsy (removing a cell from the embryo to test) will usually be performed on this day. 

 

I'm waiting for my daily phone call about how my embryo's are doing - it is nerve wracking waiting.

I had this weird dream last night from the movie Flushed where the evil villain frog has this tank full of his baby tadpoles and all I could think about was our 19 floating around in there with little faces. AHHH

Our daily update from the clinic is that we have 14 grade A embryo's out of 20. The rest are looking just so so, not growing as well or not the best grade. The nurse said the number could go down between now and Thurs. as the one's not as good will not survive. Some may have genetic problems or they just are not developing dividing normally into a baby, could be bad eggs or they just where not meant to be. Only God knows in the end which one is to be our child.

It is kinda sad that we are losing a few but we knew that some would not survive this process, it's why we try to get so many eggs in the first place. Then it's like survival of the fittest. The strongest one's will make it. I really hope we have a few to freeze in the end though just in case, then we can do FET or if we want another child we have some embryo's to use in the future. 

Since we are doing a day 5 not a day 3 our embryo transfer is set for 10:30 to Noon on Thursday the 29th (which is also our 10th wedding anniversary). I am so excited but nervous at the same time. I think we are doing two but will have to talk to the Dr. that morning to see what he thinks. I am not looking forward to the dreaded 2ww. I so hope this works. Please please pray for implantation to happen!!

Frozen Embryos: is a term used to refer to those embryos that are not transferred during in vitro fertilization cycles and are subsequently cryopreserved. A frozen embryo transfer can be used to produce a viable pregnancy by first thawing the frozen embryo, and transferring it into an appropriately prepared uterus. Other names for this process such as embryo freezing or embryo cryopreservation have been commonly used. The treatment to establish a pregnancy using frozen embryos has been called a thaw cycle or a frozen embryo transfer cycle or simply an FET cycle.
